1. Introduction

Manipulation of traits of horticultural plants by genetic engineering has been a challenge because of gene redundancy and limited information of genome or factors necessary for their engineering. Recently we have developed novel gene silencing technology targeting transcription factor, designated Chimeric REpresspr gene Silencing Technology (CRES-T), which is a powerful tool with a potential to overcome above difficulties. Using this system, we are now analyzing biological functions of transcription factors in Arabidopsis and trying to manipulate morphological traits of various floricultural plants. Here we developed this 'FioreDB' database in web-based interface which stores phenotypic information induced by various chimeric repressors in Arabidopsis and six floricultural plants, Chrysanthemum morifolium, Gentiana scabra, Cyclamen persicum, Eustoma grandiflorum and Pharbitis nil. Users can find gene-constructs that induce their preferable phenotype in Arabidopsis by simple search and can browse induced phenotypes in floricultural plants. Most phenotypic information has photo data. FioreDB is continually updated by addition of new data derived from the CRES-T analysis. FioreDB will facilitate to improve traits of horticultural plants by CRES-T system.
